Project Details

The Viking Way area of Congleton has been undergoing substantial development in recent years. This development is part of the broader growth strategy for Congleton, which includes residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects. Menard was approached by Roe Developments who were constructing a builders merchants on the site; the proposed structure covered approximately 1,370m2 and there was a requirement for Ground Improvement to be undertaken to enhance the bearing capacity of the soils and reduce the settlements to an acceptable limit.

Ground Conditions

The ground conditions comprise dense made ground consisting of clayey sands/sandy clays overlain dense natural sands/clayey sands.

Solution

Due to the dense nature of the made ground a pre-auger rig was utilised to pre drill each VSC position down into the natural soils. Although the pre-drilling can sometimes slow production slightly, once ahead of the VSC rig production picked up pace and the project was completed on time and within budget. On completion our equipment was loaded up and transported 100m across the road to complete another VSC project for Roe Developments, this time a coffee shop and 2 No. food retail units.
